In light of George Tiller's murder by some right wing nut job, I'd like to include this little gem of an article: Terror From the Right

Follow with Twitter (one of the few media left that is not completely shut down by the iranian government) and the iran.whyweprotest.net forum. Fark also many interesting threads on the subject, and the best coming from Tatsuma with his introductory summaries of the events. Good luck to the iranian protesters.

Just a little reminder of how intellectually dishonest and blindly partisan conservative talking heads can be on almost every issue. This one is about the infamous waterboarding practice used by the CIA. Conservative radio host Erich "Mancow" Muller, another of those famous chicken hawk claiming that waterboarding is not torture, decided to subject himself to it to prove his point and lasted about 6 seconds, before he admitted it was in fact torture. And that's under friendly conditions with a safe word, etc. You have to give him credit for trying and admitting he was wrong, however, unlike Hannity.

It has just been a few weeks since Obama is president of the US and already the right wing crazies are wishing him to fail, almost up in arms talking about a revolution, while the secret services are trying to stop plots left and right. Wow, stay classy conservatives. For all their talks about "turrism", someone should also remind them that most domestic terrorists are extreme right wingers, not big scary "socialists".

Determined to be an asshole until the very end, using what is known as "midnight regulations", Bush has decided to cancel many environmental laws against pollution before leaving the office.

Other victims of islamic fundamentalism: little girls trying to go to school get acid thrown on their faces. I mean, as "human beings", you can't really go lower than that. Good thing they got caught: 10 Arrested for Afghan Acid Attack.

In light of the recent trend where people are buying guns because they're afraid Obama's administration will prohibit their sale, it got me thinking that in the current economic climate, one way to make money nowadays is to pray on the fear of the ultra-conservatives about a "liberal" government. Sell guns, bibles, anti-abortions belts, underground churches, cloaking devices against UN black helicopters, etc.

CNN: OBAMA TO BE NEXT PRESIDENT
Congrats to the USA. Welcome back to sanity. Welcome back to the center. Obama will have a lot of work to fix that mess Bush left him.
the Laureates cite the politicization of science under the Bush administration, particularly in the fields of heath and climate, saying that “vital parts of our country’s scientific enterprise have been damaged by stagnant or declining federal support,” adding that through an advisory process “distorted by political considerations” America’s “once dominant position in the scientific world has been shaken and our prosperity has been placed at risk.”
Good luck to Obama with tomorrow's elections!

Another heart breaking news in the barbaric world of islamic fundamentalism:
A 13-year-old girl who said she had been raped was stoned to death in Somalia after being accused of adultery by Islamic militants, a human rights group said.

Interesting article on how the christian right killed the republican party. Many people, no matter how they disagree with the democrats on many issues, cannot find it in themselves to vote for the republican party because of its religious and anti-intellectual turn in the past decades, dismissing it as a viable option for fiscally conservatives but socially moderates.

A history of the recent attempts by the Chinese government to censor news that are not favorable to the country's reputation. Sometimes we tend to forget, in the wake of their economical success, that the chinese people live under an oppressive dictatorship.
When I watch the american elections, it always reminds me that it is still a socially immature society: Who loves God the most, who's more patriotic, who hates enemies and criminals the most, who's faithful to their spouse, who deviated from a conformist life, who is going to give you more candies, etc. It sounds like the priorities of a 12 years old. Nothing about real issues and trying to build a better society and a better world. Not to mention all the below the belt attacks like swift boating and Karl Rove's style of dirty campaigning. A sad vision.

Former White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan confirmed that FOX News commentators acted as the republican party's mouthpieces and helped disseminate the White House talking points, aka propaganda.

This is a case of not being happy to be right. One year ago, on July 21, 2007, I made fun of Mugabe, the Zimbabwe dictator, saying how his policies were about to create the first economic black hole known to man. Well, I wasn't that far off, Zimbabwe's central bank has recently issued $100 billion banknotes.. which can buy you about four oranges. Give an inexperienced government a say about how the free market should work and you get that kind of result.
Once-prosperous Zimbabwe has seen an unprecedented economic meltdown since it gained independence in 1980, with the official inflation rate now at 2.2 million percent.

Some people seem offended that France has denied citizenship to a muslim woman on the grounds of her "radical" practice of Islam. It's time european countries grew some balls and take a harder stance on the muslim extremists immigration. Countries can accept or deny whoever they want, according to their own criteria. If you're moving out of your ultra religious, backward, oppressive country to a free and modern country, you have to be willing to accept that new society, not try to turn it into the same hell hole you have abandoned.

According to a Salon.com editorialist, the reign of the american far right may be over, and they have lost the culture war. One can only hope. It's not that all their ideas are bad, it's the tactics they use, via jingoism, partisanship and pandering to the lowest common denominator, that are so reprehensible.

I haven't written much politically lately because I think, finally, the consensus is the Bush administration was a terribly inept and partisan administration, but this is possibly one of the last nails on the coffin, by none other than the previous House spokesman in his new book "What Happened: Inside the Bush White House and Washington's Culture of Deception": McClellan whacks Bush, White House
A few interesting points:
Bush relied on "propaganda" to sell the war.
The media was too easy on the administration during the run-up to the war and didn't live up to its "liberal" false reputation.
Libby and Rove secretly colluded to get their stories straight at a time when federal investigators were hot on the Plame case.
Excessive embrace of the permanent campaign approach to governance
As usual, you can expect the typical strategic defensive reaction of the administration that was used with all other "defectors": marginalisation as a disgruntled ex-employee.
UPDATE: What is it about the current crop of Republicans that compels them to derail any discussions with personal accusations?
Desperation. When the facts are against you and still cling to your political affiliation like a security blanket, reason is the first thing to go.
So go ahead and attack McClellan because he is fat or greedy. That doesn't change the fact that this administration was corrupt, incompetent and partisan, and those who voted for Bush twice deserve the shame. The important thing is he finally said the truth, not how it got out. This reminds me of the infamous photos that were taken in Iraq. The bush administration were more interested in banning cameras from soldiers than dealing with the issue at hand. Typical. Nobody comes out and denies whatever happened. They just change the subject to how it leaked.
Makes you wonder though, will W. bush end up writing a book against his own administration? That'd be funny.
